Pumpkin or Squash?
Did you know - all pumpkins are squashes, but not all squashes are pumpkins!
Pumpkins, along with acorn squash and zucchini, belong to one species of squash. Butternuts, kabochas, turbans, delicatas, cinderellas and other winter squash types belong to other species. And while they have subtly distinct flavors, they are all edible.
All that botany aside, squash are superfoods - packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other phytochemicals for good health. Add them to your eating plan now, while they are in season at farmers markets and grocery stores - and your local pumpkin patch - have plenty to choose from.
